Adam interviews Melissa Tiers
Adam interviews Melissa Tiers – Hypnosis in the news features an issue Adam has with hypnotherapists and NLP practitioners referring to themselves as ‘Masters’ – The discussion of the week with Melissa examines neuroplasticity and for once a guest has some common ground with Adam about the notion of an unconscious mind – The factoid of the week showcases a study that examines self-hypnosis being used with haemophilia and Adam takes issue with some American spelling.

Listening to Melissa with her egocentric evangelical style, I was reminded of the vast amounts of pseudo science within the hypnotherapy community – a great deal of which comes from the US.
The science she quotes is not well explained. Valuable as the empirical studies are in self-directed neuroplasticity, they provide only the data and not the answers to critical questions of the causal relationship between the aspects of empirical studies described in psychological term and those that are described in neurophysiological terms. Investigators are assuming that measurable properties of the brain are the only factors needed to explain the processing of the psychologically described information occurring in the experiments.
